Shriner's Hospital Patient, Elvisa.

This is Elvisa's story:
Elvisa who at the time lived in Albania was burned when she was 7 years old. One day while playing outside an explosive device exploded and she was set on fire. She recieved severe burns to her face, chest and stomach. After being brought to a hospital in Albania the doctors told her parents that she only had 3 days to live. Her father did not settle for that and contacted the President of Turkey who sent a private plane for them. While in Turkey she received treatment and was in a coma for more than 30 days. The doctors in Turkey also explained to her parents that she would die. When she came out of the coma she had to learn how to do everything all over again. Her father stood by her side the entire time. While in Turkey he heard about Shriners Hospitals Children. He was told that it was the most amazing hospital for the treatments that she needed. Her father contacted a Shriner who was able to get them to the US. Soon they arrived in Boston. " my whole life changed at that moment" she said. " I was so insecure with the way I looked". That is when I met the most amazing doctor Dr. Austin. Dr. Austin performed all of my surgeries. They have always made me feel like I was home with my family.
I have spent most of my life growing up trying to determine what I wanted to do when I got older. Bcause of Shriner's Hospitals for Children I have choosen to go to Nursing School. " Shriner's opened my eyes to the things that they do. If it was not for them I would not be here right now. I am forever grateful to them. Everyday they call me to invite me to events and a just check up to see how I am doing" " I never thought that there were people like them in the world Shriner's Hospital and the men and women who support the Hospital make me feel like i am home. Even though I am a long way from home" "This is my story and that is why I am who I am today"

Shriners Creed
Shriners believe in God and that he created man to serve his purpose, among which is service to others in his name.
We believe that care for the less fortunate, especially children who suffer from burns and crippling diseases, is our institutional calling. We are patriots, each willing to serve his country with fidelity and courage. We cherish independence under law and freedom with responsibility. We honor family. We respect our parents, wives and children. We should instill in our children the tenets of this creed and the heritage from which it emanates. As individuals we pledge ourselves to integrity, virtue and nobility of character. Our intentions will be honorable, our relations will be trustworthy and our spirits forgiving of each other. As brothers we offer each other fraternal affection and respect. Together we will support each other in adherence to this creed, so that we and our communities will be the better because of our fraternity and it's principles. As Shriners we look beyond ourselves to serve the needs of others, especially children who cannot help themselves. We believe Shriners Hospitals to be the world's greatest philanthropy, and we covenant with each other to support it's " temples of mercy" with spirit, time, talent and means.
